Six students from Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP),
together with other students from selected schools, worked as external staff in
the recently concluded World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia, held last May 21-23
around Metro Manila.
Students were assigned in
different committees, particularly in transportation, partners team, and
production assistance and were trained on how to organize an international
event.
PUPians were also able to
participate in several discussions involving economic growth, environmental
awareness, health issues, agricultural transformation, global citizenship
innovation, employment issues and many other talks.
PUP was just one of the schools
selected by the Department of Finance (DOF) – the host country’s organizing
department- to send students who will serve as ‘ambassadors’ of the Philippines
to help the international staff from preparation up to the actual forum.
Among of the universities
participated in the international forum were University of the Philippines
Manila (UPM), De Lasalle University (DLSU), Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU)
University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Technological University of the Philippines
(TUP).
Meanwhile, Jean-Loup Denereaz,
Senior Director, Head of General Services and Operations of WEF, lauded all the
students who have been part of this significant event.
